On July 1, 2025, Illinois implemented a new tax on sports betting, collecting either 25 or 50 cents per bet. Casinos and sports betting apps then implemented changes, such as raising the minimum value for sports wagers, or adding a fee to each bet. And sportsbook patrons then changed their behaviors.
In this webinar, we will use the Spectrumetrix Data Service to study the changing behavior of Illinois sports bettors. Has the new tax affected the overall growth of sports betting in Illinois relative to its neighbors, who made no change in their gaming taxes? Do bettors show a changing preference in when and how they place their wagers?
